The Department of Information Science booth buzzed each day with nonstop activity as alumni and prospective students visited the booth at the Texas Library Association Conference held April 3 – 6, 2018 in Dallas, TX.
Several faculty were at the booth to speak about our programs and to catch up with their former and current students. Alumni were happy to provide updates as to what they had been doing since their days at UNT, and current students were pleased to report that they were enjoying the classes they were taking. Many prospective students also came by the booth to discuss how a library/information science degree would benefit or help them start their careers. Our green bags floated through the exhibit hall, a lifesaver for many who had stocked up on books and gadgets from various publishers & exhibitors.
On Wednesday, April 4, Dr. Kinshuk, Dean of the College of Information and Dr. Yunfei Du, Interim Chair of the Department of Information Science met with IS alums for the first Alumni Summit. Held at the UNT Dallas College of Law, Kinshuk led an open forum regarding curriculum, professional careers, and the future of the library and information profession. For more, click here.
On Thursday, April 5, under the theme of "Homecoming", the faculty and staff of the College of Information and the IS Department welcomed alumni and friends at the Alumni Dinner held at the Iron Cactus Mexican Restaurant. Upon arrival, guests were invited to don silly hats and props to pose for pictures in front of the step and repeat, before being seated for dinner. UNT Provost, Dr. Jennifer Cowley and Dean Kinshuk welcomed guests, thanked everyone for coming and gave a brief update on the happenings of the university and COI. Amidst food and conversation, guests played a game of Faculty Who’s Who. The evening ended with a tribute to the late Professor Margaret Nichols, and guests were entertained with a video tribute “But all you do is check books out!” https://vimeo.com/263026700 .
