Information Science Endowed Graduate Fellowships

The Dewey E. Carroll Graduate Fellowship
The Dewey E. Carroll Graduate Fellowship, was created in the honor of Dewey E. Carroll, Dean and Professor Emeritus of the University of North Texas to provide support for graduate and post-graduate study and research in the Department of Information Science.
The purpose of this Fellowship is to support outstanding graduate students conducting research and teaching in the Department of Information Science. The Fellowship will be awarded to applicants who have demonstrated the potential for outstanding research and teaching in the fields of Information Science, Library Science, and Data Science. Selection will be based on criteria such as peer-reviewed publishing, teaching records, as well as research, field experience, recommendations and statements of purpose or goals. To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must possess the following characteristics:
- Must be in a good academic standing
- Must be working and involved with research projects that include but are not limited to dissertation work, lab-based research projects within the Department, and faculty research in the form of independent research projects.
- Must be a full-time graduate student in the Department of Information Science at the University of North Texas.
- Preference will be given to those who can demonstrate competence in research through scholarly publication or funded research.
The Mark E. Rorvig Endowed Graduate Fellowship
The Mark E. Rorvig Endowed Graduate Fellowship, was created in the honor of the late Dr. Mark E. Rorvig, Associate Professor in the School of Library and Information Sciences at the University of North Texas (UNT). Rorvig is a nationally recognized pioneer in the field of information retrieval.
The purpose of this Fellowship is to support outstanding graduate students in the Department of Information Science. The Fellowship will be awarded to applicants who have demonstrated the potential for outstanding research in the fields of Information Science, Library Science, and Data Science. The number and size of awards will be determined by the amount of money available each year, well as the quality of applications. To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must possess the following characteristics:
- Must be in a good academic standing
- Must be working and involved with research projects that include but not limited to dissertation work, lab-based research projects within IS department, and faculty research in the form of independent research projects.
- Must be a full-time graduate student in the Department of Information Science at the University of North Texas.
- Preference will be given to those who can demonstrate competence in research through scholarly publication, funded research, development and delivery of quality course content.
Teaching and Research Assistantships / Teaching Fellowships
- Open only to masters and doctoral-level students in the Information Science Department.
- Good teaching and research skills; specific background required in some positions.
- 15 to 20 hours per week; salary varies.
- Includes in-state tuition for out-of-state residents, if 20 hours per week.
- The selection process is very competitive and subject to students meeting the following
conditions:
- Academic Merit
- Good academic standing in all courses and good progress toward a degree
- Responsibility and reliability based on previous evaluation in case of reappointment as assessed by superervising faculty or staff
- Collegiality and ability to take and follow directions, and work constructively as a team member
UNT Libraries Graduate Library Assistantships
- Open to students in all concentrations
- Candidates should have appropriate skills and/or experience
- Twenty hours per week for nine months
