The Health Information Archive Management Graduate Academic Certificate program prepares students to manage, preserve, and govern health information in complex healthcare environments. Through specialized coursework in archives, records management, and health information practices, students gain the skills to ensure regulatory compliance, protect sensitive data, support research and patient care, and preserve institutional memory. Graduates are equipped for roles in health information archives, records management, information governance, and privacy and compliance across healthcare and health technology organizations.

What You'll Learn

The Health Information Archive Management Graduate Academic Certificate program teaches students how to manage, preserve, and provide access to health records in healthcare environments. Students learn to develop records retention policies, ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards, protect sensitive information, support researchers and healthcare providers, and create disaster preparedness plans for archival collections. Graduates gain the specialized knowledge needed to manage both digital and physical health records while meeting the information needs of diverse healthcare stakeholders.

All 12 credit hours of coursework taken for the Health Information Archive Management Graduate GAC can be applied to the following graduate degrees.

Required Courses (Students will complete all of the following courses): 

INFO 5230: Documents and Records Management

 

INFO 5240: Archival Arrangement and Description

 

INFO 5365: Health Librarianship and Informatics

 

INFO 5634: Disaster/Emergency Management for Information Professionals

Some courses listed may have prerequisites. Students should consult with the program advisors prior to enrolling in the individual courses.

Note: Students who are awarded Graduate Academic Certificates and later apply for admission to the M.S. in Library or Information Science program will be required to submit any additional documents required by the specific program. 

Current Graduate Students seeking Concurrent Enrollment

Students MUST be admitted to an academic certificate program in order for the certificate to be awarded.

If you are a current UNT student and you are applying for a GAC please email ci-advising@unt.edu to submit your request to add a GAC to your degree plan.

If you do not complete the application prior to your graduating semester, the Toulouse Graduate School will not accept your request for the certificate.

Once You Are Admitted

Once admitted, you will be assigned an advisor who will assist you in getting enrolled for classes and beginning the Graduate Academic Certificate Program.

Academic Certificate Completion Form and Request to Receive Your Certificate

Once you complete your course work, please submit the Request for Graduate Academic Certificate of Completion form to receive your certificate.
