College of Information Office of Advising

Academic advising for the Department of Information Science is conducted by the advisors in the College of Information. The College of Information's Office of Advising staff supports undergraduate and Masters students in the Department of Information Science. All students should contact their advisor for assistance before registering for classes. Advising sessions are available for both current and prospective students, however, sessions must be scheduled in advance.

Mission

The mission of the CoI Office of Advising is for all library and information science students to reach their educational goals, with high achievement, and to graduate. To fulfill our mission, the advising staff is committed to the following goals:

  • Providing timely and accurate advising and information in a supportive environment, where students and advisors share in the responsibility for academic success,
  • Developing systems that support and enhance student learning and achievement, and
  • Developing links across campus to ensure seamless navigation of the educational system from admission to graduation.

Guiding Principles

The staff members of the CoI Office of Advising believe very strongly that it is our responsibility to support all students in the achievement of their goals by:

  • providing accurate and timely information,
  • referring students to appropriate resources on campus,
  • listening carefully to their questions and concerns,
  • fostering an environment conducive to personal and academic growth, and
  • assisting students in understanding the purpose and goals of higher education.

Early Graduate-level Study

Qualified undergraduate students may be admitted to graduate study during their final undergraduate term/semester in order to take graduate credit courses not required to complete a bachelor's degree. Be sure to ask about the Grad Track Program.
