The department is part of the College of Information which was formed in October 2008 and became a member of the iSchools in 2009 and a member of the iCaucus in 2015.

The department offers programs in Data Science, Library Science and Information Science at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. Our programs are nationally recognized and ranked. The Master of Science program with majors in Library Science or Information Science is accredited by the American Library Association and is ranked 20th in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. The Health Informatics program is ranked sixth in the nation. We also offer the nation's largest interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Information Science.

The Department of Information Science is constantly evolving to meet the ever-changing needs of the information and knowledge profession. We are dedicated to providing a challenging and nurturing environment for our students. Our commitment to quality education and community outreach are some of the guiding principles to our approach in educating and preparing thoughtful and effective leaders in the Information Science field.
