SWIM Cohort Facts

Requirements

  • Students will be required to attend two four-day institutes held in January 2015 and in June 2015. See Schedule of Courses for more details.
  • The remainder of the instruction will take place via the Web.
  • Students must begin the program in the Spring of 2015.
  • Students may use up to nine semester hours of coursework from other graduate programs toward the master's degree with approval of their program advisor.
  • Students will apply to, be admitted, and be advised from the Department of Library and Information Sciences at the University of North Texas.

Estimated Costs

The approximate cost of the master's degree program is $550 per semester credit hour (based on 6 hours per semester for a total of $20,000).

  • One semester-hour course: $550
  • Three semester-hour course $1650

This figure excludes student and course fees.

An Online Learning Community

The SWIM Program students will stay together as a cohort through their first year of study and will be in classes limited to only cohort students. Cohort students are encouraged to participate in the Blackboard SWIM Cohort Organization, where they can network, communicate, and socialize with one another to form lasting, career-long relationships.

Practicum/Computing Requirements

  • Department Students must present evidence of relevant field experience through prior experience or by taking a field experience course in addition to the thirty-six semester hours required for the Master's.
  • Department of Information Science students are expected to possess computing competencies that will enable them to learn in the distributed environment. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that these competencies are possessed.
