Scholarships and Eligibility Requirements

All applications must be complete with a letter of application, 2 references and any special criteria. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please read the application criteria and apply only for those scholarships for which you qualify. 

Margaret Irby Nichols Endowed Scholarship (2 available)

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant for the Scholarship must possess the following characteristics:

  • Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department in effect at the time of any award.
  • Enroll in 9 or more hours in the Department of Information Science at the University, at the time of receipt of stipend.
  • Maintain a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.00 basis on all college level work.
  • Must be a Masters student in the Department of Information Science at the University

Florence Richardson Wilhite Endowed scholarship (1 available)

  • May be a full time or part time student in the Department of Information Science at the University at the time of receipt of stipend.
  • Must be a masters student and maintain a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.00 basis on all college level work.
  • Preference given to students pursuing classification, adult services or public libraries specializations.
  • Applicants should clearly articulate in their application letter their degree goals with regard to classification

 

Doralyn Hickey Endowed scholarship (2 available)

To be eligible for consideration, an application for the scholarship must possess the following:

  • Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department in effect at the time of any award.
  • May be a full time or part time student in the Department of Information Science at the University at the time of receipt of stipend.
  • Maintain a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.00 basis on all college level work.
  • May be either an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Student must exhibit a confirmed interest in pursuing a professional career in the technical services area of library and information science.
  • Applicants should clearly articulate in their application letter their degree goals with regard to classification, cataloging, acquisitions or other technical service areas.

 

H. W. Wilson scholarship (2 available)

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant for the Scholarship must possess the following characteristics:

  • Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department in effect at the time of any award.
  • Maintain full time enrollment in the Department of Information Science at the University, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program at the time of receipt of stipend.
  • Maintain a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.00 basis on all college level work.
  • May be either an undergraduate or graduate student.

 

The Mary Guittard Voegtle Law Librarian and Legal Informatics Scholarship (2 available)

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant for the scholarship must possess the following characteristics:

  • Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department in effect at the time of any award unless the student is nearing completion of his or her degree program and does not need at least half-time enrollment.
  • Enroll as at least a half time graduate student in Law Librarianship and Legal Informatics (or its successor) at the University. In the event no applicant meets this criterion then graduate students enrolling at least half-time in the Department of Information Science at the University will be considered at the time of receipt of stipend.
  • Maintain a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.00 basis on all college level work.
  • Applicants to this scholarship must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words describing the applicant’s intent to participate in international professional and/or academic development conference travel and become a law librarian upon completion of his or her education at the University.  This should be part of their overall letter of application.

 

Texas Forrest Trails Library Consortium Scholarship (2 available)

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant for the scholarship must possess the following characteristics:

  • Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department in effect at the time of any award.
  • Maintain full time enrollment in the Department of Information Science at the University, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program at the time of receipt of stipend.
  • Maintain a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.00 basis on all college level work.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who graduated from high school in one of the following Texas counties:
    • Anderson, Angelina, Bowie, Camp, Cass, Cherokee, Franklin, Freestone, Greg, Hardin, Harrison, Henderson, Hopkins, Houston, Jasper, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Morris, Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Panola, Polk, Rains, Red River, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Smith, Title, Trinity, Upshur, Van Zandt, Walker or Wood.   In the event no applicant meets this criterion, then secondary preference will be given to applicants who are or were employed or otherwise associated with a library in one of the counties above, as self-certified by applicant.
  • Applicants should clearly articulate in their application letter which, when and for how long they lived in the counties above.

 

Leon Liddell Scholarship (1  available)

  • Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department in effect at the time of any award.
  • Maintain full time enrollment in the Department of Information Science at the University, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program at the time of receipt of stipend.
  • Maintain a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.00 basis on all college level work.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who graduated from high school in one of the following counties: Cooke County, Texas or Love County, Oklahoma
  • Applicants should clearly articulate in their application letter which, when and for how long they lived in the counties above.

John P. Medders Memorial Fund scholarship (4 available)

  • Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department in effect at the time of any award. 
  • May be a full time or part time student in the Department of Information Science at the University at the time of receipt of stipend. 
  • Maintain a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.00 basis on all college level work. 
  • May be either an undergraduate or graduate student.   
  • Applicants must be an active student in the Law Librarianship & Legal Informatics. This should be clearly indicated as part of their overall letter of application.
