EOP Exam

Purpose

The IS End of Program Examination is one of two End of Program Assessment options for MLS/MIS students.  For students choosing this option, the exam serves as the culminating academic event. Students participate in the End of Program Examination during the last semester of their graduate program in order to meet the examination requirement of the UNT Toulouse Graduate School.

The IS End of Program Examination is designed to give students the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to organize and synthesize knowledge as developed throughout their academic program, and to defend positions on current issues in library and information science and the larger, dynamic information environment.

Students enrolled in the IS End of Program Examination will utilize the official IS End of Program Examination "course" (no registration is required) in Canvas to submit all components of the IS End of Program Examination for evaluation. The End of Program Examination course is also the official online communication venue for exam-related activities once the exam period commences.

Students who try to register for the EOP Exam once it begins will not be allowed to take the exam that semester and will instead have to wait until the next time the exam is offered.

Criteria for Successful Completion

The IS End of Program Examination is graded on a PASS/FAIL basis.  In order to have successfully completed the exam, the student must have received a grade of Pass on all three essays.  A grade of Fail on one or more of the essays results in failing the entire exam.

If a student fails the exam on their first attempt they will be asked to switch to the alternate End of Program Assessment Method - Advance Topic Seminars (ATS).  If the student prefers to take the EOP Exam again and fails for a second time they will fail the entire program and will not be awarded the degree. Students are only permitted to re-take the End of Program Examination once.
