Dr. Barbara Schultz-Jones appointed Associate Chair for IS Department

Barbara Schultz-Jones, associate professor has been appointed Associate Chair for the Department of Information Science. Schultz-Jones, who is also the Director of the School Library Certification and Youth Librarianship programs will also serve as Director of the Master of Science in Library Science or Information Science program.

Schultz-Jones joined the Department in 2007, after completing both her Master’s in Library Science and her Ph.D. in Information Science from UNT. She has published papers in several major journals as well as presented papers on relevant topics related to school librarianship at major national and international conferences. 

She has served as the Chair of the IFLA School Libraries Section, and is the co-editor of the “IFLA School Library Standards and Guidelines." She is also the co-author of the 2015 book “Global action on school library guidelines” and the 2018 book “Global action on school library education and training”, both IFLA/IASL joint publications. She is currently the Conference Chair for the 2021 International Association of School Librarians (IASL) Annual Conference to be held in July.

Her areas of expertise and research interests include school librarianship education and training (cataloging and information organization, integration of technology, correlation between school libraries and student achievement, online learning, data literacy), social network analysis, learning environments, and big data in K-12 Education.

Schultz-Jones will assist Jiangping Chen, department chair with relevant duties such as curriculum development and review, course scheduling, adjunct faculty recruitment and evaluation, and participation in external activities.
