IS student interns with the American Library Association

The 2017 American Library Association Conference held in Chicago on June 21-27, 2017 was a memorable one for UNT College of Information - Department of Information Science Master's student LaMoya Burks. Lamoya is interning with the ALA Chapter Relations Commitee supporting Libraries Transform!

Libraries Transform is ALA's multi-year national public awareness campaign highlighting the transformative nature of the nation’s libraries and elevating the critical role libraries and library professionals play in the digital age.The campaign provides branded print and digital materials for use in local library campaigns, including “Because…” statements that surprise and catch the attention of target audiences. Since it's launch in 2015, spearheaded by ALA president 2015-16 Sari Feldman, more than 4,000 libraries and library advocates have joined the campaign.

Lamoya had the opportunity to attend sessions, had many learning experiences, and met leaders and supporters of the profession including Librarian of Congress - Dr. Carla Hayden. She also met author and actress Sarah Jessica Parker, who announced the first selection for Book List /Appointed Board Member, and Texas Library Association Executive Director, Pat Smith!
