IS alumnae elected to Texas Library Association's Executive Board

Congratulations to Cecilia Barham who was elected president-elect, and Christina Gola who was elected Representative-at-Large of the Texas Library Association Executive Board!

Cecilia Barham (‘00 MLS) is currently the library director at North Richland Hills Public Library, and will serve as president-elect for 2019–2020. Cecilia began her library career at UNT, working as a film librarian and a web development librarian. She graduated with her master’s in library science in 2000.  Barham transitioned to public libraries and worked as the Adult Services Librarian at the Flower Mound Public Library. In 2005, she became director of the Decatur Public Library, one of two libraries named finalists for the Bill and Melinda Gates/Library Journal Best Small Library in America in 2012.

In 2010, she appeared on the cover of the “The Tattooed Ladies of TLA” calendar that raised funds for the Texas Library Association’s Disaster Relief Fund, a fund that helps libraries recover from natural disasters such as fires, floods or hurricanes. Cecilia is a member of TALL Texan Leadership Institute, Public Library Association, Public Library Administrators of North Texas, and Texas Municipal Library Director's Association. She was co-chair of the 2017 Conference Program.

Christina Gola 

Christina Gola is head of Liaison Services for Instruction & Outreach/Associate Librarian at University of Houston Libraries.  She will represent Academic Libraries on the TLA Board. Her current research and professional interests include teaching and learning for undergraduate student success, assessment of library instruction programs, and library leadership and management.

She has established herself as an emerging leader both locally and nationally, serving and chairing committees within the Association of College and Research Libraries and the Texas Library Association.
